Secure Your Pet's Future with Reliable Identification
Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center offers comprehensive microchipping services to ensure your pet can always be identified and returned safely home if lost. Microchipping is a simple, effective, and permanent way to link pets to their owners, increasing the chances that they will be returned to you if they ever go missing.
What is Microchipping?
Microchipping involves implanting a tiny chip, about the size of a grain of rice, just under your pet's skin, typically between the shoulder blades. Each chip contains a unique number that is registered in a national pet recovery database with your contact information. This number can be read by a scanner that most veterinary clinics and animal shelters possess.
Benefits of Microchipping Your Pet
- Permanent Identification: Unlike collars or tags, which can fall off or become illegible, a microchip is a more durable form of identification.
- Quick Recovery: If your lost pet is found and brought to a veterinary office or animal shelter, a quick scan of the microchip can facilitate a speedy reunion.
- Global Coverage: Most modern microchips are ISO-compliant, meaning they can be read by a universal scanner in many different countries.
Microchipping Process at Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center
The procedure for microchipping is quick and safe:
- Consultation: Our staff will explain the process and discuss the registration of the microchip.
- Implantation: The microchip is implanted using a syringe and needle. The process is fast and, for most pets, no more painful than a routine vaccination.
- Registration: We will help you register the microchip’s number along with your contact information in the national database.
Microchip Scanning Services
If you find a lost pet or need to have a microchip checked, you can bring the animal to Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center. Our team can scan the microchip to help identify the owner. Please note, however, that while we can scan microchips, we do not take possession of any pets. If you need to leave a found pet in safe hands, please contact the Mat-Su Animal Shelter.
Important Considerations
- Updating Information: Keep your contact information up to date in the microchip registry to ensure you can be contacted if your pet is found.
- Not a GPS Device: Microchips do not have GPS capability and cannot track the physical location of your pet.
